Job Summary:

The Database     Support Engineer provides advanced operational support for enterprise databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and NoSQL platforms. This role handles complex incidents, performs deep‑dive troubleshooting, executes changes, and collaborates with L3/Engineering teams to ensure high availability, performance, and stability of database environments.

Job Duties: 

  • Manage and support VMware vSphere environments, including ESXi hosts, vCenter, clusters, HA/DRS, and vMotion.
  • Monitor virtual infrastructure performance, host health, and capacity across compute, memory, and storage resources.
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain virtual machines following standardized templates and security hardening guidelines.
  • Troubleshoot VM performance issues, snapshot problems, host connectivity failures, and network-related errors.
  • Apply patches, updates, and firmware upgrades to VMware hosts and related components.
  • Support cloud services including compute, storage, networking, IAM, and security within AWS, Azure, or hybrid environments.
  • Provision cloud compute resources and manage storage volumes, S3 buckets, Azure VMs, and related cloud infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot cloud connectivity, API failures, and resource misconfigurations.
  • Assist with cloud migrations, VMware-to-cloud transitions, and modernization initiatives.
  • Validate backup success for both VMware and cloud workloads and participate in DR and restoration tests.
  • Monitor alerts from vRealize, CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, SolarWinds, LogicMonitor, or similar tools.
  • Perform root-cause analysis for recurring virtualization and cloud-related incidents.
  • Support automation scripting using PowerShell, PowerCLI, Python, or cloud CLI tools.
  • Assist with infrastructure-as-code workflows including Terraform, CloudFormation, or ARM templates.
  • Ensure compliance with security standards, patching requirements, and audit controls.
  • Maintain SOPs, runbooks, architecture diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Network, Storage, DB, Security, and Application teams.
  • Document all incidents, changes, and troubleshooting steps in the ITSM platform.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and operational review meetings as required.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • VMware Administration - Manage ESXi hosts, vCenter, clusters, resource pools, DRS/HA, vMotion, and storage integrations.
  • Cloud Platform Support - Provide operational support for AWS/Azure/GCP services, including compute, storage, networking, IAM, and monitoring.
  • Incident & Problem Management - Diagnose and resolve virtualization and cloud-related issues, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Performance Optimization - Monitor system health, tune workloads, and optimize resource utilization.
  • Backup & Disaster Recovery - Implement and support backup solutions (Veeam, Commvault, etc.) and DR strategies for virtual and cloud workloads.
  • Security & Compliance - Apply patches, enforce security baselines, manage access controls, and ensure compliance with organizational standards.
  • Automation & Scripting - Use PowerShell, Bash, Python, or Terraform to automate routine tasks and deployments.
  • Documentation - Maintain detailed SOPs, architecture diagrams, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Collaboration - Work with DevOps, Networking, Security, and Application teams to support business initiatives.

Required Qualifications: 

  • 2-6 years of hands-on experience with VMware virtualization.
  • 1-4 years of experience supporting cloud environments.
  • Experience in enterprise IT support or infrastructure operations.
  •  
  • VMware Expertise - ESXi, vCenter, vSphere, vSAN, NSX (preferred).
  • Cloud Knowledge - AWS/Azure/GCP fundamentals, cloud networking, IAM, monitoring tools.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, firewalls, and load balancers.
  • Experience with backup solutions (Veeam, Commvault, Rubrik).
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes.
  • Proficiency in PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
  • VMware VCP (Data Center Virtualization or Network Virtualization)
  • AWS/Azure Associate
  • CompTIA Cloud+, Network+, or Security+
  • ITIL Foundation

 

 

 


 Compensation:

We provide a competitive pay and benefits package. This position is offering a salary range of $95,000-$105,000 Belcan considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to education, experience, geographic location, and discipline. Benefits offered may include health care, dental, vision, life insurance; 401(k); education assistance; paid time off including PTO, holidays, and any other paid leave required by law.
